My name is Laura Garza from Corpus Christi, TX.  I graduated from Texas A&M Corpus Christi in May 2008 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology.  I knew junior year in college I wanted to commit to service abroad, however I chose to serve a year domestically first.  I joined Good Shepherd Volunteers and began my year of service August 2008. I lived in a community of 7 and served as a social worker in the Bronx at a foster care agency adolescent department.  The joys and challenges I experienced made for a more fulfilling year than I imagined.  I still had the desire to serve abroad and this brought me to a second year of service, this time with the Augustinian Volunteers, in Peru.  After living in New York City I know it will take some adjusting to life in Chulucanas but I am eager to practice my Spanish, live in community, and serve the people of South America.
