Commitment Statement

I, Dan Gallagher, commit myself to be an Augustinian Volunteer with the intention that I will make a positive impact on the lives of the individuals and the greater community that I will be living and working with.  I also commit myself to learning from those within my community and the greater community of Chulucanas so that I can gain a better understanding of the world and my place within it.

Favorite Quote

"All men dream, but not equally.  Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds, wake in the day to find that it was vanity: but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act on their dreams with open eyes, to make them possible." - T. E. Lawrence

How did you find your love for volunteering?

I have participated in volunteer work since I was young, but it was not until I went on a high school service trip to the Dominican Republic that I found my love for it.  This experience and others at J.O. Wilson Elementary School in Washington, D.C. and Norris Square Neighborhood Project in Philadelphia, P.A. have fueled my love for volunteering.

Can't pick just one.

Most interesting book you've read

I am not much of a reader, but I loved the Harry Potter series.  J.K. Rowling's imagination is amazing.

Issue you're most passionate about

When innocent people suffer due to the selfish actions of others.

If you could be any food, what would you be and why?

Peanut butter on wheat toast.  Such a simple but satisfying snack, anytime of day.

What are you most excited for in the city you will be living in?

The mangos!  Getting to explore Peru and meeting the people of Chulucanas with my community.
